21 Day Challenge: Legends, habits & greener cities

Every year, people say they’ll start changing their habits on January 1st… but let’s be honest, the holidays are just over, and few actually stick to it. So again, this year, we decided to be realistic: at Vega IT, our legends start on February 1st. That’s when the real challenge begins, and that’s exactly when our 21 Day Challenge kicked off with fun, motivation, and a chance to build lasting habits together.

Around 100 colleagues decided to test themselves for 21 days, choosing between the Regular or Fit tracks, and some simply did both.

One of them chose daily habits like drinking at least 2 liters of water, reading a few pages every day, or taking the stairs instead of the elevator. On the other hand, one colleague committed to 100 push-ups every single day for 21 days. And for a few people, the challenge quickly turned into a friendly competition. One of the most interesting ones happened between Maja Bozic and Sasa Kovacevic, who kept an eye on each other’s progress in the Fit challenge and tried to outscore one another in the internal FitLife app. What started as a personal goal soon became a daily check-in to see who was ahead.

Everyone tracked their progress in a shared calendar, turning each checkmark into a small moment of satisfaction.

By the end of the challenge, more than half of our colleagues stayed consistent all 21 days, proving that determination really is contagious.

It was my first time participating in something like this, and I loved the initiative. What stood out to me was that it wasn’t only about physical activities, but also about caring for the environment, people around us, and the community.

21 Day Challenge x Green IT: Building habits that help the community

The challenge wasn’t only about personal habits. This year, we also added a Green IT component, continuing something we had already started, collecting funds for greening local communities and giving the challenge a meaningful environmental and community angle.

Each day brought a different mini-task. Some were simple but meaningful: picking up litter in the neighborhood, feeding birds or stray animals, or walking or cycling to work instead of using fuel. Others invited colleagues to slow down a bit, spending 30 minutes in nature, preparing a healthy meal and enjoying it mindfully, or taking time for a hobby. There were also reflective tasks, like writing down five things that recharge your energy, thinking about what you learned about yourself during February, or sending a letter to your future self that will arrive in six months.

Every task carried a certain number of points, and each point meant a 10 RSD donation from the Vega IT Foundation toward our upcoming tree-planting initiative. By the end of the challenge, participants collected 73,720 RSD through these mini-tasks.

It was a great reminder that small daily actions, when multiplied across a team, can make a real difference.

I really liked the idea. The challenges weren’t too demanding, but they made me pay attention to small things that usually go unnoticed. The physical tasks felt natural, while the reflective ones pushed me a bit out of my comfort zone, which is exactly why they were valuable

    Small habits that stick

The challenge showed us that small daily changes can turn into lasting habits, especially when they’re shared with a supportive team. Drinking water, taking the stairs, or reading a few pages, all of it became part of a playful, motivating routine that made everyone feel energized and proud.

What started years ago as a simple internal initiative has gradually become a February tradition at Vega IT, bringing colleagues together every year to work on small personal goals, while this year also doing something good for the community.

Here’s to the next challenge, because legends don’t quit, and neither do good habits! 💚
