Ever wondered what it’s really like to work in IT? Or wished you had someone to answer all your burning questions about career paths, first steps, or switching specialties? This November, we brought “Ask the Experts” to three cities in Serbia and Montenegro to do exactly that. Our goal was simple: give students, recent graduates, and anyone curious about the IT world the chance to connect with real professionals, hear authentic stories, and gain practical insights into their future careers.

Across three locations – Novi Sad, Niš, and Podgorica, we welcomed almost 300 attendees eager to learn, ask, and explore opportunities. The event offered a unique, informal format: instead of traditional presentations, our experts were available for open Q&A sessions and casual conversations. This approach allowed attendees to dive deep into specific areas of interest, discuss real-life challenges, and get advice tailored to their career goals.

    Novi Sad

In Novi Sad, the turnout was incredible, with around 200 attendees joining us at Vega IT Radnički. They had the chance to meet experts across multiple fields:

    • Software Engineering
    • Data & AI
    • QA (Quality Assurance)
    • DevOps
    • Project Management
    • Web UI / Frontend
    • Business Analysis
    • Business Development & Client Success Management
    • Marketing
    • People & Culture

Our experts shared their career journeys, explained day-to-day responsibilities, and gave advice for first steps in IT roles. Many attendees also asked about internships and open positions, which we highlighted and encouraged them to explore.

“Participants were able to relax and ask questions without hesitation or worrying about how they might sound. In that kind of atmosphere, time flew by, we stayed for an hour and a half and still managed to answer all their questions. You could clearly see their curiosity and genuine interest in understanding what it’s really like to work as a BA. At one point, they were a bit concerned about how many responsibilities the role includes, but once we explained the onboarding process in more detail – having a mentor, the role of the Dev Lead, and how Dragana and Milana handled their first projects, that concern quickly turned into motivation. In short, this was an amazing experience for me, and I’d be happy to take on this role again next time.”

Nikola Čukić, Business Analyst, Development Lead

    Niš

In Niš, over 50 participants joined the conversation. Here, the focus was on smaller, interactive sessions that allowed for deeper one-on-one discussions with experts in:

    • Software Engineering
    • DevOps
    • Project Management
    • QA

The smaller group allowed for a more intimate exchange of experiences. Attendees could ask detailed questions, discuss challenges in their studies, and learn how to navigate early career decisions.

“I consider the event extremely valuable from both the company’s and my personal perspectives. Conversations like these allow us to better understand the real challenges faced by people just entering the industry, while also enabling us to directly contribute to the community by sharing our experiences. This is a format definitely worth repeating.”

Djordje Jović, Partner, Software Engineer & Development Lead

    Podgorica

In Podgorica, around 20 participants attended a meeting with our experts. Despite being a smaller group, the sessions were just as dynamic, covering:

    • Software Engineering
    • Data
    • DevOps
    • Mobile App Development

The intimate setting encouraged even the shyest participants to ask questions, gain guidance on internships and potential career paths, and understand what day-to-day work looks like in various IT roles.

''The students were really interested and asked a lot of great questions. They were curious about internships, job opportunities, and what a typical workday looks like. We explained what it’s like working with clients, gaining technical knowledge, and compared university courses with real work experience. Overall, it was a lot of fun meeting them and seeing how engaged they were.''

    Networking - where conversations continued

After the Q&A sessions, attendees from all three cities joined an informal networking gathering, a relaxed space where curiosity didn’t stop. This part of the event brought everyone together: students, career changers, and experts from different domains.

    Here, participants could:

    • talk with experts from other areas they didn’t choose in the main session,
    • mingle, exchange contacts and hear diverse career stories,
    • connect with peers who share similar interests,
    • explore new perspectives they didn’t even know they needed.

The atmosphere was open, friendly, and full of ideas. Many attendees said that networking helped them better understand the industry as a whole, not just one niche, and gave them clarity on where they might fit in the future. And if you’re wondering what the experience really felt like, here are a few impressions from our participants:

“Very interesting and useful event, I’m glad I participated, and I hope there will be more opportunities like this in the future to meet people working in IT.” - Participant, Novi Sad

“A very pleasant and relaxed atmosphere, with lots of useful advice and experiences shared by the experts. I think the experts definitely succeeded in bringing this role closer to all of us, as well as encouraging and engaging us in it, regardless of participants’ different backgrounds and experience levels. A great experience :)” - Participant, Novi Sad

“As a complete beginner, I’m glad the experts were mindful to answer questions in a way that everyone could understand (as much as possible, of course). I’m satisfied with the event; the only minor issue was that there weren’t many seats with a clear view and good acoustics, but the experts were extremely friendly and very helpful.” - Participant, Novi Sad
