    About the client

    With over 50 years of combined expertise in SCADA, software, water, and connectivity, STREAMETRIC delivers intelligent monitoring, control, and analytics – all secure, scalable, and accessible to operators of any size.

    As part of the MANN+HUMMEL Group – a global leader in filtration technology with decades of experience in the water and wastewater market – STREAMETRIC benefits from a strong foundation of innovation and a deep commitment to sustainability.

    Aiming to empower utilities for a smart tomorrow, STREAMETRIC ensures utilities have the tools and support they need to deliver safe, reliable water and wastewater services to their communities.

    The challenge: Building a solid foundation for scalable growth

    When STREAMETRIC first reached out to us, they already had the first version of STREAMETRIC, a cloud-based SCADA (Supervisory, Control and Data Acquisition) system for water utilities that combines ease of use with Intelligent/AI features to increase efficiency/prevent operational issues. But the application was falling short in key areas, such as performance, code quality, and scalability.

    They first consulted us as their product discovery partner, asking for consultancy. Their goal was to explore a technical question – could the existing STREAMETRIC version be reused to support future growth? Or, would it be better to start fresh while salvaging parts of the old product?

    Their initial idea was to run a Sprint 0 – a phase where the basic skeleton and infrastructure for a project are set up, ensuring future sprints can deliver real value efficiently. This phase typically involves proof-of-concept work or technical exploration, and only minimal upfront design to allow for emergent design later on.

    The solution: Rebuilding STREAMETRIC from scratch

    The kick-off – product discovery

    During Sprint 0, we kicked off a lightweight product discovery phase instead of focusing solely on technical research spikes.

    Our goal was to understand STREAMETRIC’s key business objectives, product vision, and known issues, and then recommend the best approach – whether to rebuild STREAMETRIC from scratch or refactor parts of the existing platform.

    During the discovery phase, we validated three critical areas:

    • business goals – to ensure the solution is viable;
    • customer goals, pains, and needs – to make sure the solution is desirable and usable;
    • technical requirements – to confirm the solution is feasible.

    This approach helped us balance both perspectives – business and product, alongside a strong tech assessment. From the technical viewpoint, we mapped and analysed the domain architecture to understand how devices and the overall system worked. Based on our findings, we proposed a new architecture built on AWS Serverless – a future-proof solution designed to support STREAMETRIC’s scaling ambitions and business growth.

    End-to-end delivery

    STREAMETRIC required a reliable system to integrate existing infrastructure with embedded software and controllers for on-site facilities. To help them with that, we established an end-to-end delivery process and ways of working that ensured the successful delivery of the MVP within budget and on time.

    Throughout the process, our delivery manager collaborated with the Product Owner from the client's side. Working hand-in-hand with the STREAMETRIC development team, we led the delivery and provided ongoing technical expertise and guidance for implementation.

    We helped the client move from a front-end-centric technical solution to a modular API-first product.

    That way, we delivered a robust solution that enables remote monitoring and control of water and wastewater systems, allowing support teams and engineers to quickly address issues and maintain stable water supply operations. We specifically focused on the implementation of alarm services that send notifications to end users, informing them about any misbehaviours of the system.

    This also provided facilities with the ability to predict and mitigate potential problems, ensuring continuous, efficient service delivery and long-term sustainability.

    The results: A water management platform done right

    The new STREAMETRIC platform enabled the client to roll out a reliable, scalable solution tailored to real-world conditions in the water management industry. With improved system stability and remote control features, field teams can now react faster and more efficiently, minimising downtime and operational risk.

    That way, we made their offering more agile, allowing for easier onboarding of new clients, streamlined updates, and better alignment with market needs. Internally, this transformation reduced maintenance overhead and unlocked clearer pathways for product evolution.

    Today, STREAMETRIC is well-positioned to grow their digital services across municipalities and industries, backed by a future-proof architecture that supports innovation without compromising reliability.
